{alltv} 'No Ordinary Family' star Julie Benz joins CBS pilot

Julie Benz has followed her "No Ordinary Family" co-star Michael Chiklis into the pilot-season fray, signaling further bad news for the ABC series.

Like Chiklis, who's starring in CBS' comedy "Vince Uncensored," Benz has signed on to a pilot at the Eye, although hers is a drama. The untitled show stars Patrick Wilson as a surgeon who's trying to re-order his life -- with help from his late wife (Jennifer Ehle of "The King's Speech"), who communicates with him from the afterlife.

Benz will play Wilson's sister, a single mother who has myriad issues of her own, Deadline reports.

The CBS project (from "Erin Brockovich" and "The Soloist" screenwriter Susannah Grant) is in second position to "No Ordinary Family" for Benz, so if both were to make the schedule next season she'd be obligated to return to ABC. But given "NOF's" modest ratings and the large number (14) of drama pilots ABC is developing, the odds of that happening aren't especially high.

Benz's previous credits include "Dexter," "Desperate Housewives" and "Angel."
