British reality TV star Jade Goody has died in her sleep after losing her battle with cancer. The star died at 3.55am, her publicist Max Clifford said. She was 27.
Her mother Jackiey Budden told Clifford: "My beautiful girl is gone."
She later stood outside her home and asked for privacy as friends and family grieved the news.
The 27-year-old's body was taken from the home at shortly after.
"Family and friends would like this privacy, at last, for this morning," Budden said.
The distraught mother was wearing pajamas with a coat over the top when she left the house.
Jade's friend Kevin Adams, who was dressed all in black, was visibly upset and declined to comment to reporters outside the home.
Later, two police officers arrived at the house.
Ms. Goody learned she had cancer last summer. Having sold the most picayune details of her life for the previous six years to tabloid newspapers and celebrity magazines, she resolved to do the same for her death. Given just weeks to live, she earned more than $1 million by selling the media rights to her wedding.
"I've lived my whole adult life talking about my life," she told an interviewer from her hospital bed. "I've lived in front of the cameras. And maybe I'll die in front of them."
I’m kind of glad that Jade Goody died peacefully in her sleep, she has done amazing things for cervical cancer awareness in the UK. She was brave.
